Canada T4 Checker
Your T4 is your employer's year-end statement of your employment income and the income tax, CPP and EI deducted. Pick your province, enter the figures, and PayGlance checks them against the federal and provincial engine for the year.
How to use it
- Get your T4. Your employer issues it after year end (box 14 pay, box 22 tax, box 18 EI).
- Pick your province and enter the figures. Employment income, income tax, CPP/QPP and EI.
- See the check. PayGlance shows expected vs reported for each line and flags anything worth a look.
FAQs
What does the check do?
It recomputes the expected federal and provincial income tax, CPP and EI for your employment income using the basic personal amount, and compares them with your T4, flagging differences beyond a small tolerance.
What about Quebec?
For Quebec, provincial tax is reported on the RL-1, not the T4, so the check compares the federal portion only and notes this. CPP/QPP and EI are still checked.
Is a flag an error?
Not necessarily - it uses the basic personal amount only, so other credits and deductions will move the figures. Treat a flag as 'worth checking', not proof of a mistake. Confirm against CRA.
